Come Together

Disengaged lovers separated by a dime
Can’t connect to each other, too many mountains to climb
Bills to be paid money to be made
Through a minutia of nonsense and bullshit they wade

Passion and compassion thrown to the side
The brass rings they chase can’t bridge the divide
Their vision is tunneled by the “things” they chase
But silver and gold is not the prize for this race

Love is left dangling for another time
When the clock runs out it becomes a crime
Withheld affection is like manslaughter
Then the empire you’re building begins to totter

Twisted priorities are our biggest disgrace
And will become the ruin of the human race
Holding love for ransom robs humanity
All love “games” are pure insanity

Yet in times of need we expect love to be there
Giving us comfort, relief and care
But love is a fire that needs to be stoked
Neglected, the flame will eventually be choked

So reunite, lovers, I beg of you
Give love a chance to blossom anew
It will be your only savior in the end
Because only love will help you ascend

Silently

Crying a little on the inside
Trying not to let it be known
That I realize my mind lied
And my eyes believed what was shown
My heart fell in line dutifully
As though it had a choice
Painting my future beautifully
Amplifying that voice
Then they told me it isn’t so
And everything turned grey
It seems that the fates said no
Not this one, not today

Why do I love you?

You ask me why I love you,
How can I forgive your distraction
From ordinary human interaction
When the simplest kindness will do
You want to know how I still care
When you’re rude, perhaps with intention
Selfish and arrogant… not to mention
Your disregard for what is fair

You’re curious why I still bother
Though you treat me with disdain
Callously attempt to inflict pain
And use my trials as fodder
You’re wondering if I’m a masochist
Or maybe just an idiot
For still showing love but
Let me give you the gist

Love is in my every cell
It is resilient and multiplies
Showing me more than my eyes
And since we are connected…well
I know it’s in YOU too.

Higher

I’ve reached the summit
And as I stand here on the top of the world
Watching the tip of the Sun kiss the edge of the sky
The thin air disorients me
Shallow breaths, shallow breaths
Drown my brain till I am giddy
And convulsions of laughter roll through my body
Just before I wet my cheeks with tears of uncertainty
I wonder why you’ve brought me here
To these heights of enlightenment and bliss
With no instructions on how to reach the sun
Maybe this is as far as I go?
At some point giddiness will turn sickening

Why must the air be so thin up here?
Why can the sun touch me, but I can’t touch him?
It’s a tease being stuck in the clouds that surround him
Not knowing how to get closer
Is there a magic phrase?
Will “abracadabra” lift me up to him?
I stand here, dizzy, shouting my supplications
But I don’t think I’m close enough for the sun to hear
Was it foolish of me to climb?
Having seen the grandeur just beyond my grasp
I certainly can’t retreat now.
I suppose there’s only one thing I can do…
Learn to fly.

Simply Love

My dream is of love
My hopes are for love
My work is for love
I’m sending you my love
All I have for you is love
All I need from you is love
Please share all of your love
The world needs your love
You were made from love
You were made to love
You have changed me with your love
I will change you with my love
Your gift is your love
My gift to you is love
My wish is for your love
My wish for you is love

The Secrets and Lies of Reality

Set perfectly here in this warm place
Comforted, soothed, accepted, loved
Here, in this place, time stood still
Your heart was changed and relaxed
And I could hear the hum of your thoughts
In my ear like a lullaby
Aligned in perfect symmetry, a whole
New dimension opened up to reveal the truth
Of the matter from which we are made
We are one, we are the same, I am you, you are me
I dreaded the coolness of the wind
Between us upon the release of your embrace
Because the lies of this world would then return
Separateness, distance, longing, division
This world tells lies and keeps secrets

Love is a Constant

Love even when love is hiding
When it is unsure or subsiding
Love is the candle in the window
Guiding the beloved with its glow
Signifying a welcoming heart
And every day is a brand new start

Love needs no invitation
And there is no expiration
It lives inside of all of us
All we need to do is trust
When we gather together it is there
Through any heartache or despair

Whether you’re silent in love or shout it out
You know it when you see it without a doubt
Love is gentle forgiving and kind
It would never complicate the mind
Love is the anchor that keeps us steady
And it will be here when you’re ready

Oneness

Free from delusion I honor inclusion
The world began from one DNA strand
Your supremacy’s based on extremities
Or a belief designed for your relief
Your mechanisms separate and encourage hate
But the machines you devise will be your demise
We are all connected and love is resurrected
Daily in the universe one kindness will reverse
A million inequities and righteousness frees
Mankind from the chains of ignorance’s remains
You seek to downgrade what is divinely made
Yet you’re powerless over what is blessed
It is your greed that feeds this need
To categorize man with your lies
Craving superiority highlights your inferiority
We’re all jewels of equal worth formed at birth
Each adding splendor with the good we render
Your blessings will be cursed and your spoils dispersed
Until you acquiesce to the reality of oneness

Dying from Consumption

They‘re all dying of consumption
But the disease was not in their lungs
No bacteria caused the dysfunction
It was the bling that had them sprung

They were consumed with getting things
Most of which they couldn’t afford
Cars, clothes, diamond rings
Gadgets never left them bored

They were consumed by the wanting
Of things someone else had
The obsession was quite haunting
Since those things were merely fads

I watched them waste from this disease
As life faded from their eyes
They couldn’t get enough to please
And the wanting they despised

Consumption is highly contagious
And very hard to cure
Purchases become outrageous
Bills are too much to endure

And in the final days
Surrounded by their useless stuff
Those moments of bliss are a haze
I hope they finally got enough

The Tale of the 99%

Sitting comfortably with the poor man as your footstool
Your feet heavy on his back from your pricey shoes
Laughing in your high back chair calling him a fool
For believing all the lies you paid for in the news

As you drain your scotch and give your Cuban a puff
You thank your money for your luxurious days
Your god the dollar has given you more than enough
Yet you persist with your insatiable ways
But just as you ease into inebriated bliss
Your footstool begins to rumble
You’re certain that nothing could be amiss
Until your Berluti’s take a tumble

The poor man has risen from his subjugation
Back straightened and quite discontent
You arrogantly remind him of his station
But his resolve you could not circumvent

You call out to the almighty dollar for deliverance
But it was he who caused your descent
Now you must pay for your indifference
To the needs of the 99%

Inward I go

Looking into the prism of my mind reflecting
On all that I’ve been neglecting
All the while rejecting
Whatever I’ve been expecting

Preparing to return strong
Because I must finish this song
Fate has waited far too long
To carry me where I belong

Traveling through the depths of my history
Trying to reveal what is hidden to me
A journey into my psychology
To facilitate my destiny

Doing it all for love’s sake
Love is my destination, make no mistake
This urge to love I can not shake
For love I’ll do whatever it takes

Enough Times

Enough times you don’t see me as I am
Because you seek to see me as you would have me be
But I am not here to satisfy you
I am not here to please you
My duty lies in being free
My duty lies in being me

Enough times you don’t see my beauty
Because I don’t suit your beautiful ideas
But your ideas of beauty are limited
They stagnate true beauty
My beauty lies within me
My beauty lies in eternity

Enough times you don’t see me at all
Because you’re too busy looking at illusions
But your illusions are not lasting
They will fade when the rain comes
My reality lies in truth
My reality lies not at all

Love of My Life

In the cradle of Your bosom
Is where I long to stay
There is where I blossom
Like a rose at the dawn of day

I can’t imagine greater bliss
Than I feel in Your embrace
Life would be amiss
If I couldn’t see Your face

I know You are my beacon,
Guiding me back home
Never again will I weaken
Never shall I roam

The favor You have shown me
Has enabled me to fly
And You will forever own me
My Lord, Jah Rastafari

I Found a Place

I found a place where I can be peaceful
Where there is joy and love
Here there are no worries
There are no judgments to be found
I could stay there forever, if allowed
Each moment feels like forever anyway
I found a place where there is serenity
My thoughts stop racing
Though my heart threatens to take over
This place is filled with a warm light
And it penetrates my soul
Its energy builds and fortifies me
Strengthening me for when I must go
And I must go, eventually
Though I may leave this place
It will stay with me always
Yes, I found a place of comfort
I have found a place of joy
A place where nothing matters
This place was your arms

Borrowed Time

Four hundred years later, and I’m still plowin your fields
Building up your fortune, when I know it’s mine you steal
You say you gave me my civil rights
But I see nothing civil about how you fight
So I’ll keep my armor on and my sword unsheathed
And I’ll come out from under the foot I’m beneath
Victory will be won on this earth, please believe
My inheritance will be returned from the lying thieves
The spoils of war are not made of gold
Or of anything that can be bought or sold
I was born free and so I shall remain
Your shackles do not fit me, I can’t be bound by chains
Go ahead and be fooled by your false security
The days are numbered for such surety
Goliath you're livin on borrowed timeYour destiny is the dust for all your crimes
